Through our
involvement with the CSFG and understanding of the energy, environment and waste
issues that face a catering operation we have been able to bring substantial
benefits to our client’s and are proud to have been the catering design
consultants on HMS Collingwood which is heralded as the most energy efficient
and sustainable facility within the Royal Navy land bases showing some 30%
savings over as traditional facility.
The Catering for a
Sustainable Future Group (CSFG)
is a voluntary organisation, formed in March 2006 from people within the UK
catering industry interested in developing ideas and initiatives to promote
energy savings and sustainability in commercial kitchens, in the face of growing
public awareness of this issue.
The CSFG has been
formed as a sub-committee of the Catering Equipment Distributors Association
(CEDA) the Catering Equipment Suppliers Association (CESA) and the Foodservice
Consultants Society International (FCSI.) The
CSFG
therefore enjoys unparalleled support from right across the UK catering
equipment industry.
Commercial kitchens
are huge users of energy and much can be done to improve efficiency. The CSFG
feels that this initiative should come from within the industry, rather than
having it forced upon the industry at a later date.
The Group’s chosen
mission statement is:
‘To provide the
foodservice industry with a code of practice and guidelines for consideration
towards energy efficiency and use of sustainable products.’
One of the
group’s first major achievements has been the publication of a CIBSE guide
TM50:2009 “Energy Efficiency in Commercial Kitchens” this brings advice and
guidance on all aspects of commercial kitchens in a way that can be used by
anyone in the industry with tips and suggestions that can be quickly and easily
acted upon to start making savings straight away.
